Out of Sao Paulo, Brazil comes a newly launched app that uses crowdsourcing to tell you about the most popular places in a city. Yeah!Places is a location discovery app that came out of another app called Consume (are you following?). Consume was created in August 2014 as a way to help users find trendy bars, restaurant, shops, or other places. New locations can be added by users by filling out a “card” where they evaluate places on a 10 point scale in areas such as service, price, and products. These evaluations can then be shared on social media platforms. Consume grew in popularity with over 5,500 registered places in 71 cities within three months of its launch. However, the creators of Consume decided to take things a step further and create Yeah!Places. This new platform is fed data from the Consume app and uses an algorithm to select the places with the highest ranking for users to see. As places get evaluated by new users, their rankings will go up and down. This means that the places that show up on the app will constantly be changing, giving people the opportunity to discover new places with more frequency based on the evaluations of others. Yeah!Places recently entered into a partnership with Booking.com which will allow users to reserve hotel rooms on Booking.com through their app. Image Credit: nishan joomun
